OBJECTIVES

As people are living much longer (on average), retirement planning is becoming far more complex with the need to build in flexibility on top of a tax code that is fast becoming almost impenetrable to all but a few! It must be remembered that in this area, you are never too young nor too old to be planning. However, not only are legislation and products changing so, due to tax and PI claims, is the practise. This is especially the case due to the current demographic time bomb in the UK. To give trusted and valued advice to clients (and also to avoid expensive PI claims), you must be up to date.

The course is aimed at helping accountants to assist their clients in responding to the changes on both strategic and detailed levels. Retirement planning is not just pension planning.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

Accountants advising both the self-employed and director/shareholders of OMBs, who are looking for a technical update and refresher. It will also be suitable for those who would like an understanding of the specific tax problems encountered by the sector and the strategy and tactics to be adopted on the approach to retirement and beyond.

TOPICS

  1.  A review of pensions and their use in the target market, not just to provide an income but as a succession planning tool together with a review of the massive complexity contained in the current legislation
  2.  Life time ISAs and other products that may be useful (note – this is not a financial services course – it deals with the key tax and commercial drivers in the area). Selling or passing on the business (including where we are on Entrepreneur’s relief)
  3.  Cash extraction with retirement in mind to cover all useful forms of cash extraction including share buy backs
  4.  Essential estate planning and IHT planning particularly in the light of the new pensions freedoms
  5.  Where does the modern practice go on the introduction of MTD?
  6.  Stop press – the most recent developments arising out of Budgets, Autumn Statements and related developments!
