OBJECTIVES

This course is designed to cover practical ways to use Excel more efficiently and concentrates on a range of different tips and practical techniques for getting more out of Excel with less effort. The course is not hands-on but the course notes have been designed to provide step-by-step instructions for all the areas covered.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

Because the course concentrates on practical ideas for using Excel efficiently, rather than particularly advanced areas, most Excel users should find it useful. No particular prior knowledge is required beyond a basic understanding of Excel and how to create simple formulae. If you already have a good understanding of a wide range of Excel functions, make extensive use of range names and use lots of keyboard shortcuts then the course might be of less benefit (but you'd still be very welcome to attend).Examples will be based on Excel 2003 and Excel 2007 but where an earlier version differs substantially this will be highlighted on the course. The course notes will include instructions for Excel 2007 and 2003.

TOPICS
  • 20 indispensable functions – from the simple to the slightly more complicated and including the hidden date function that they didn't want you to know about
  • 20 better ways of working with formulae – important techniques to make Excel formulae do more and to make formulae easier to enter, easier to understand, easier to troubleshoot and easier to get right
  • 10 quick wins. Techniques and Excel features to add value to your Excel spreadsheets – from improved formatting to the Excel camera
  • 40 keyboard and mouse shortcuts – sometimes it's the simplest things that can save the most time.
  • Top 10 Excel tips – impress your colleagues and amaze friends and family - a countdown of the most useful Excel tips
