WHAT ARE THE ICAEW REQUIREMENTS?

ICAEW members are required, on an annual basis, to identify their training needs and then ensure that they undertake appropriate action to fulfil them. The former points / hours system no longer applies but members must take responsibility to plan CPD which is appropriate to the work they are involved in.

Training can be in whatever form the member feels is most suited to their own objectives and there is no longer a distinction between structured and unstructured CPD. It may take many forms including atttending courses, reading , on-line training, technical meetings etc.

DO BUSINESS MEMBERS HAVE TO UNDERTAKE CPD?

The requirements apply equally to members in practice and business and any member may be asked by the ICAEW to demonstrate the training they have undertaken at the end of each year.

Business members may find our technical updates for business members (accounting and tax) run twice yearly in each society, useful towards fulfilment of the requirement.

It is all too easy to lose track of which courses you have been on, or even which you are booked to attend. With your Flexipack you will receive a report on courses booked. WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS OF OTHER PROFESSIONAL BODIES?

Other professional bodies have similar requirements. ACCA have a unit based system where you must carry out 40 units (hours) of relevant CPD each year, of which 21 must be verifiable (i.e. you can provide evidence that you have done them). A number of our courses have CPD accreditation from the Law Society.
